One of the many ways we support Australians’ health is by giving back.
As a not-for-profit, each year, we dedicate significant time and funds to partners who share our vision of creating a healthier future for all Australians. Our activity is focused on three key areas within health: active living; research and education; and community.
We’re excited to be a partner of Australia’s most trusted and popular sport, netball. Together, HCF and Netball Australia support over a million players across the country, from beginners to elites. Our partnership aims to empower Aussies of all ages to lead more active, healthier lives and grow this much-loved sport.
As two not-for-profit organisations, we’re united by uncommon care. Just as we go above and beyond for our members, the netball family goes above and beyond to create and nurture a sporting community that is uniquely Australian. We both put our people first, look out for one another and value fair play.
This relationship builds on our existing Principal partnership with the Giants Netball team and now extends to be a Major Partner of the Suncorp Super Netball national league, West Coast Fever, Adelaide Thunderbirds, Queensland Firebirds, Sunshine Coast Lightning and NetSetGo – a national program for kids aged 5-10. We’re also a community partner for all state-based netball associations and clubs (excluding Netball VIC).
Together, we’ve been putting the health of our communities first for over 175 years. We think that’s pretty uncommon.
Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute
The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is dedicated to fighting cardiovascular disease through research. Like us, it's not-for-profit.
In 2012, we partnered with the Institute to deliver free heart health checks at HCF branches across Australia.
Any member with extras cover can drop in to receive a simple blood pressure, total cholesterol and blood sugar test from a registered nurse, and get the results on-the-spot.
International Consortium for Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM)
ICHOM is a not-for-profit organisation that works with healthcare systems around the world to measure and report on the effectiveness of medical treatment from a patient perspective.
The HCF Research Foundation, which shares this focus on improving health outcomes, has formed a strategic partnership with ICHOM. We’re working together to fund research and develop measurement tools to assess patient experiences in three areas: pregnancy and childbirth, oral health, and hip and knee osteoarthritis.
Understanding how well treatments improve previous patients’ symptoms, and their overall quality of life, can help others considering the treatment to better understand how it may work for them. The benefits for hospitals and doctors include identifying best practice and areas for improvement. The wider goal is creating a more efficient and effective health system for all Australians.
