FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Learn more about No-Gap Day Surgery with these answers to common questions.

To access the No-Gap Day Surgery program, you must have an active hospital policy with HCF (excluding Overseas Visitors Health Cover) that covers the relevant procedure for at least 12 months. You'll also need to have been accepted into that specific no-gap program by a participating hospital and surgeon, based on clinical criteria.

You can check your cover in the My Membership app, online member services, or by calling us on 13 13 34.

In addition to your waiting periods, you'll need to have held hospital cover that covers the day procedure with HCF for at least 12 months before you can access the No-Gap Day Surgery program.

If you're eligible for the No-Gap Day Surgery program, and the procedure is being provided by a participating hospital, surgeon and anaesthetist, you won't need to pay any out-of-pocket costs for:

  • hospital admission
  • surgeon costs
  • anaesthetist costs
  • diagnostic tests that are undertaken as part of the procedure.

You may be required to pay a hospital excess, depending on your cover and if you're claiming for the first time in the calendar year. There may also be some small permitted gaps and additional costs for outpatient appointments, like a visit to your surgeon in their consulting rooms. If you need additional services during your admission (eg. if you have other medical conditions such as diabetes or cardiac conditions), these are not covered by the No-Gap Day Surgery program.

If there are complications with your surgery and you need additional care or services beyond what's included in the No-Gap Day Surgery program, you may have to cover these costs yourself. Talk to your participating surgeon and anaesthetist to confirm what these costs might be so you can provide Informed Financial Consent.

Yes, we’ll be adding more hospitals and procedures to the No-Gap Day Surgery network over time.
