Overseas Visitors Health Cover (OVHC) is health insurance for people who are working in Australia or visiting on a temporary visa. It can help you access healthcare services in Australia at a lower cost. It may also be a requirement for your visa (visa condition 8501).
Depending on the level of cover you choose, OVHC can cover costs for:
You may still have out-of-pocket costs you need to pay.
Some visas (including visitor visas) may not require OVHC because visa condition 8501 doesn't apply. However, OVHC may still be a good idea to help reduce unexpected healthcare costs while you’re staying in Australia.

+ Covers emergency ambulance transport to the nearest hospital from any location except from a medical facility or a hospital. Under visa-compliant cover, emergency ambulance transfer between hospitals will only be covered if it is necessary because the original admitting hospital does not have the required clinical facilities.
