In the latest Federal Budget, the Government announced a proposal to remove the additional age-based rebate that applies to some people aged 65 and over. Under the proposal, the rebate would be based on income only and all age groups would receive the same level of rebate.
The Government says these changes are intended to simplify the rebate scheme and redirect any cost savings to support aged care.
No. This is a proposal only. It’s not yet law and still needs to be voted on and passed through both houses of Commonwealth Parliament.
