After YourProcedure

After your procedure, a member of staff will bring you to the recovery area.

You shouldn’t have much pain or discomfort following the procedure but you may experience some discomfort similar to period cramps.

Some women who’ve had a hysteroscopy without an anaesthetic or with just local anaesthetic, experience feelings of faintness afterwards. It’s caused by a temporary drop in blood pressure due to irritation of the vagus nerve. Recovery is usually quite quick.

You may also have shoulder pain if air was used to inflate your uterus. It normally resolves within 15 minutes.

Some vaginal bleeding is also quite common.

If you’ve had a general anaesthesia, you may experience nausea, vomiting and/or a sore throat. You’ll have to wait until any anaesthetic or sedation has worn off before you can go home and you’ll need someone to take you home, as you’ll be unable to drive.

If you haven’t had anaesthesia or sedation, and you’re feeling OK, you’ll probably be allowed to go home after a short rest.
