The HCF Team Health Score combines physical, mental and support data to give Super Netball fans real-time insight into what’s happening on court.
Holistic health takes more than regular exercise and a balanced diet. While both matter, wellbeing also depends on factors like quality sleep, strong social relationships and having a sense of purpose.
Having these and other aspects of your life in balance is central to both your wellbeing and happiness.
To illustrate why balance matters, we created the HCF Team Health Score. Shown during Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) games and Fox Netball broadcasts, it offers a clear picture of how a team is performing compared to the opposition –how alignment across key elements can impact results.
What's the HCF Team Health Score?
On the netball court, performance is shaped by more than just what you can see during the game. Every pass, intercept and goal attempt reflects many hours of netball training, careful preparation and a strong focus on both mental and physical health.
For SSN players, elite form is built through strength and conditioning sessions, tactical planning and teamwork drills long before game day.
This multi-layered view of performance inspired the HCF Team Health Score. Going beyond the traditional points you see on a scoreboard, it highlights how three important;'health' elements combine to shape overall performance.
The score combines data from three key pillars during a game: physical, mental and support.
Physical
These are the physical actions that directly strengthen on-court performance, like:
- deflections (touching the ball after it has been passed or shot to change its path
- blocks (positioning your body in a way that forces an opponent into a particular part of the court)
- offensive rebounds (retrieving the ball after your team takes a shot at goal)
- defensive rebounds (retrieving the ball after the opposition takes a shot at goal).
Mental
These are the moments that can help or hinder players’ confidence and momentum, like:
- scoring goals
- missing goals
- gaining possession of the ball.
Support
These are the things players can do to help their teammates perform better, like:
- goal assists (helping a teammate score)
- pickups (retrieving a loose ball).
Once you add the physical, mental and support scores together, you get the HCF Team Health Score, which is announced during every Super Netball game broadcast.
Learning from The HCF Team Health Score
The HCF Team Health Score allows netball fans to compare how their team stacks up against their opponents across the three pillars, plus track performance trends and changes to team “health” throughout a season. It adds a new layer of insight to the game but also prompts a bigger question: are you taking a balanced approach to your own wellbeing?
Are you giving enough attention to your physical, mental and emotional health – or is one or more areas being left behind?
The HCF Team Health Score shows that success – in sport and in life – isn’t built on one strength alone. It comes from balance. When physical effort, mental resilience and support for others work together, performance improves. The same principle applies off the court: small, consistent actions across all areas of wellbeing can add up to a stronger, healthier you.
