You’ll be admitted to hospital on the day of your surgery
You may need to fast from midnight the night before. When you get to hospital, you’ll be asked to fill out a consent form if you haven’t done this already.
Hernia repairs performed as emergency surgery, and some bilateral (in both sides) hernia repairs require at least one night in hospital. Also, if you’re having general anaesthetic, you’ll have to stay overnight. So pack a bag to bring to the hospital with you.
Waiting to go into the operating theatre
Expect to wait around for a while, as you may not be first on your doctor’s surgery list.
