HCF THE FIRST FUND TO PILOT QR CODE CLAIMING FOR EXTRAS SERVICES
FRIDAY JUNE 02, 2023: HCF Members will soon be able to make on-the-spot claims for extras services using a QR code on their mobile phones, making the claims process more efficient and convenient for both members and healthcare providers, following a trial currently underway.
The health insurance industry-first initiative will allow members to scan a QR code available through their HCF Membership app at new HICAPS Trinity terminals, providing a quick, easy and convenient alternative to using their physical membership card.
The contactless QR code claims are currently being trialled in a pilot by HCF staff and NAB corporate members and if successful, will be available to HCF’s entire membership base later this year.
The QR code claiming solution is a joint initiative developed between HCF, Australia’s largest not-for-profit health fund, and HICAPS, Australia’s leading healthcare claiming solution.
HCF CEO Sheena Jack said the pilot showcased HCF’s commitment to finding innovative solutions to solve pain points for members at every step of their healthcare journey.
“We know that when people are out and about they’re increasingly using their mobile phones for purchases, to tap for transport, and even to order food, so we wanted to create an innovative solution to extend that convenience to visiting extas health services providers as well,” Ms Jack said.
“Working together with HICAPS to develop this innovative feature demonstrates our passion for providing outstanding service and care.“
"While our members are at the core of everything we do, we’re also very pleased to be extending that commitment to providing uncomplicated care to participating healthcare providers.”
NAB Executive, Merchant Services, Mark Raymer, said innovating to further simplify and streamline the claims process for HCF members, and subsequently the wider Australian healthcare sector, would bring significant and tangible benefits for everyone.
“Traditionally, Australian healthcare payment systems have been complex, which has led to substandard payment experiences for patients and difficulties for healthcare providers,” Mr Raymer said.
“QR code claiming is a significant step forward and one we believe will help markedly improve the overall claims, and payments experience. The rollout of our new, state of the art, HICAPS Trinity terminals is progressing at pace and with more than 20,600 already in market, we’re on schedule to fully transition all providers to our new terminals over the next few months.”
HICAPS CEO, Simon Terry, said the strength of its partnership with HCF was fundamental to the successful delivery of the new QR code claiming system, which had in turn, further underlined the ability of both organisations to deliver real innovation for its customers.
“We have built a strong relationship with HCF over the years and we’re delighted to have had the opportunity to work together with the HCF team to deliver this new digital solution for its members,” Mr Terry said.
“We believe it will vastly improve the end user experience for both customers and healthcare providers alike, and we look forward to making it available to all HCF members - as well as the wider Australian healthcare sector - later this year.”
