GIANTS centre named HCF most valuable player

Sydney, 26 June, 2017 – GIANTS Netball centre, Serena Guthrie, has rounded out her first season in the team by being named the inaugural HCF Most Valuable Player, announced at a Gala Dinner on Friday 23 June. The event marked the end of an impressive debut season for the new Club, which saw GIANTS Netball finish runners-up in the Suncorp Super Netball competition.

This was Guthrie’s first season with an Australian netball club and she has cemented her dominance in the Centre position, playing every GIANTS Netball match this year. The HCF Most Valuable Player is the highest individual accolade awarded by the Club, recognising outstanding achievement across the season.

HCF joined the GIANTS Netball family at the beginning of the 2017 season, supporting the team throughout the highly contested competition.

Chris Rawlins, Acting Chief Marketing Officer, HCF congratulated Guthrie on the award, saying: “Throughout the season we have seen the impact Serena Guthrie has had on the team, both on the court and off. We’re really pleased to be part of recognising her contribution, which took the team all the way to the Grand Final.”

Netball is the premier female sport in Australia and Netball NSW, who backs GIANTS Netball, has more than 115,000 members. This season the Suncorp Super Netball competition has drawn record audience figures both in stadium and on air.

The new Netball season kicks off in April 2018 and HCF will be back for the second year supporting the team.
