A member of staff will take you to the operating theatre and make you comfortable.
If you’re having sedation or general anaesthetic, your anaesthetist will insert an intravenous cannula into a vein. If you’re having regional anaesthesia, your anaesthetist will inject the anaesthetic into your back to numb you from the waist down. You’ll then be positioned on the operating table. Your position depends on the procedure that you’re having.
The surgical removal or reduction of haemorrhoids is performed using one of several methods which your surgeon will have discussed with you previously. Learn more about types of haemorrhoid surgery.
After the surgery, the area will be covered with a gauze pad held in place by special underwear.
This surgery usually takes around 30 minutes, depending on how complex it is.
