What’s the HCF GLA:D® Member Feedback Program?
The GLA:D® Member Feedback Program is designed to help HCF collect information and feedback from members about their experience with the GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis. Eligible HCF members who are clinically suitable for the GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis can participate in the GLA:D® Member Feedback Program and be fully reimbursed for their out-of-pocket costs for treatment. Participants in the GLA:D® Member Feedback Program are required to complete the GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis in full and provide information and feedback to HCF about their experience through a series of member feedback surveys.
What’s the purpose of the GLA:D® Member Feedback Program?
HCF is always looking for new ways to help members reach the highest standards of health and wellbeing. By collecting information and feedback from members participating in treatment programs, HCF can better understand members’ experiences, outcomes and preferences. This will help us make funding decisions which serve our members best in the future.
Who’s eligible for the GLA:D® Member Feedback Program?
To be eligible for the GLA:D® Member Feedback Program you must:
- meet the clinical eligibility criteria for the GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis which is determined by GLA:D® certified physios and exercise physiologists and includes:
- being over 18-years-old
- having a diagnosis of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis that may require joint replacement surgery in the upcoming few years
- not having had a total or partial knee joint replacement surgery
- not having participated in the GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis in the previous 2 years
- not having participated in the HCF Osteoarthritis Healthy Weight for Life program in the previous 2 years.
- hold eligible HCF hospital cover for a minimum of 12 months that includes joint replacement surgery for a minimum of 2 months and be up to date with your premiums
- be willing and able to complete the member feedback surveys.
What do I need to do to participate in the GLA:D® Member Feedback Program?
- Complete the GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis through an accredited GLA:D® and HCF-recognised physio or exercise physiologist
- Provide information and feedback to HCF through a series of member feedback surveys, including:
a pre-program survey from HCF
a post-program survey from HCF.
If you agree, you'll also complete additional research surveys from La Trobe University when you start the program and at 3 and 12 months after completing the program.
How much can I claim from HCF?
HCF members with eligible extras cover can use their benefits to reduce their out-of-pocket costs for participating in the GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis delivered by an accredited GLA:D® and HCF-recognised physio or exercise physiologist. Benefits claims can be made on the spot at some providers or through the My Membership app, by visiting an HCF branch or sending your invoice to HCF by mail.
Participants in the GLA:D® Member Feedback Program will be fully reimbursed for all their out-of-pocket costs after:
- completing the GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis with an accredited GLA:D® and HCF-recognised physio or exercise physiologist
- completing all member feedback surveys.
To receive reimbursement, participants should pay their provider directly for their treatment and submit a claim for reimbursement at the end of each session, or at the end of their course of treatment. Claims should be made by emailing a copy of your treatment invoices directly to glad@hcf.com.au.

THE GLA:D® PROGRAM FOR OSTEOARTHRITIS
What’s the GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis?
The GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis is an evidence-based education and exercise program developed by researchers in Denmark for people with knee osteoarthritis symptoms. It’s delivered by GLA:D® certified physios and exercise physiologists.
How could this program support me?
The GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis is an early intervention treatment program intended to minimise the symptoms of knee osteoarthritis, reduce pain intensity, improve mobility and reduce or delay the need for knee replacement surgery.According to research, Aussie participants in the GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis have seen a 36% decrease in pain and the use of pain relief medication after completing the program*.
What does the GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis include?
The treatment program includes individual and group education and exercise sessions. These sessions are delivered in person. In particular, the GLA:D® Program for Osteoarthritis includes:
- an initial assessment, including a 30-second chair stand test and a 40m walk test
- 2 group education sessions (60 to 90 minutes each)
- 12 supervised group exercise sessions (60 minutes each, 2 times a week)
- a 3-month follow-up assessment to repeat tests, review goals and plan next steps.
