Going toHospital

You’ll be admitted to hospital on the day of your surgery.

You may need to fast from midnight the night before. When you get to hospital, you’ll be asked to fill out a consent form if you haven’t done this already.

Hernia repairs performed as emergency surgery, and some bilateral (in both sides) hernia repairs, require at least one night in hospital. Some surgeons routinely perform short stay or 'same day discharge' hernia operations and you should discuss this with your surgeon.

Waiting to go into the operating theatre

Expect to wait around for a while, as you may not be first on your doctor’s surgery list.
