Going tohospital

You’ll be admitted to hospital on the day of your surgery and will go home afterwards.

You may need to fast beforehand. You may have to fill out a consent form if you haven’t done this already.

Waiting to go into the operating theatre

Expect to wait around for a while, as you may not be first on your doctor’s surgery list.

Sedation

Some people prefer to have light sedation to help them feel relaxed during the surgery. You can ask your anaesthetist about the pros and cons of sedation.

Sedation will make you feel sleepy and relaxed. It’ll reduce your awareness of the surgery and any associated discomfort. The anaesthetist will normally give you sedation through an intravenous cannula.
