Icy treats to make yourself

Cool down without overloading on sugar and additives by whipping up your own icy treats to store in the freezer.

What could be healthier than an icy fruit snack as a substitute for commercial confectionary? Here are some easy ideas for making your own from the Healthy Eating Advisory Service Victoria.

Banana blizzards
Peel bananas, cut into chunks and thread on an icy pole stick. Coat with lemon juice and dip in low-fat yoghurt, wrap in cling film and freeze.

Strawberry alohas
Hull strawberries and thread onto an icy pole stick. Dip in low-fat strawberry yoghurt and roll in desiccated coconut, wrap in cling film and freeze.

Fruity juice ice cups
Water down 100% fruit juice, pour into cups and freeze. Optional: add fresh fruit salad or tinned fruits in juice.

UFOs
Drain tinned pineapple rings in natural juice, wrap individually in cling film and freeze.

Watermelon wedge
Cut watermelon into wedges, wrap individually in cling film and freeze.
