HCF STANDS BY MEMBERS AFFECTED BY CYCLONE ALFRED
WEDNESDAY, 05 MARCH 2025: As we face into severe weather conditions and prepare for Cyclone Alfred’s impact across South East Queensland and Northern NSW, HCF, Australia’s largest not-for-profit health fund, is stepping up to support members facing financial and emotional hardship.
Ahead of Cyclone Alfred making landfall later this week, HCF is offering assistance to help ease the burden during this difficult time.
“We know that when disaster strikes, the last thing people need to worry about is their health cover,” said Lorraine Thomas, Chief Operating Officer at HCF.
“That’s why we’re providing practical support, including premium waivers and temporary policy suspensions, so members can focus on getting back on their feet.”
Eligible HCF members (including those on RT Health branded products) can apply for a premium waiver of up to three months or opt to suspend their policy for up to two years^ if they need to temporarily pause their cover while they recover. HCF Life members are also eligible for premium waivers of up to three months^.
The emotional toll of extreme weather events can be just as significant as the financial strain. HCF is offering eligible members a free HealthyMinds Check-in^^, providing confidential access to registered psychologists through PSYCH2U. This service includes specially trained psychologists for teens aged 12 – 17. Members can call 1 300 472 866 or visit psych2u.com.au/hcf-healthyminds to learn more and book an appointment.
“In the face of Cyclone Alfred, we’re already seeing extraordinary resilience as emergency service workers, volunteers, and local communities work together to get through this difficult time,” Ms Thomas added.
“Our gratitude goes out to all those who are stepping up to provide support. It’s in these times of crisis that the strength of our communities truly shines.”
Members experiencing financial hardship due to Cyclone Alfred are encouraged to contact HCF’s Member Support team on 13 13 34 or via email at service@hcf.com.au to discuss available support options.
