One of the many ways we support Australians’ health is by giving back.
As a not-for-profit, each year, we dedicate significant time and funds to partners who share our vision of creating a healthier future for all Australians. Our activity is focused on three key areas within health: active living; research and education; and community.
National Breast Cancer Foundation
Breast cancer affects the lives of countless Australians and their families every year. That's why we support the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which aims to put an end to breast cancer deaths by 2030.
We do this by funding breast cancer research and community programs to raise awareness and money during key events – like the Mother’s Day Classic annual fundraising walk and our educational efforts during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute
The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is dedicated to fighting cardiovascular disease through research. Like us, it's not-for-profit.
In 2012, we partnered with the Institute to deliver free heart health checks at HCF branches across Australia.
Any member with extras cover can drop in to receive a simple blood pressure, total cholesterol and blood sugar test from a registered nurse, and get the results on-the-spot.
International Consortium for Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM)
ICHOM is a not-for-profit organisation that works with healthcare systems around the world to measure and report on the effectiveness of medical treatment from a patient perspective.
The HCF Research Foundation, which shares this focus on improving health outcomes, has formed a strategic partnership with ICHOM. We’re working together to fund research and develop measurement tools to assess patient experiences in three areas: pregnancy and childbirth, oral health, and hip and knee osteoarthritis.
Understanding how well treatments improve previous patients’ symptoms, and their overall quality of life, can help others considering the treatment to better understand how it may work for them. The benefits for hospitals and doctors include identifying best practice and areas for improvement. The wider goal is creating a more efficient and effective health system for all Australians.
We’re proud to have been the health insurer of choice for the Sydney Swans since 2004. There’s a lot we can learn from these elite athletes who are more like regular Australians that we’d think. Take inspiration from these everyday champions on how to tackle challenges and determine what health means through our Healthy Choices Series.
