NO-GAP PREGNANCY COVER: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Members participating in the programme will not experience any out of pocket costs, apart from any policy excess payable (for example, if you're claiming for the first time that calendar year you may need to pay excess). If the Member seeks additional services, fees may apply. Please speak with the Participating Medical Provider to confirm and ensure a valid Informed Financial Consent is given.
Can my partner stay with me in the hospital?
Yes, your partner can stay with you overnight as a carer (but not as an admitted patient) but please aware that HCF No Gap Pregnancy Package does not cover any costs your partner may incur while staying with you at hospital (for example, meal costs). These costs will need to paid by you to Sydney Adventist Hospital on discharge. Please refer to Sydney Adventist Hospital for further information.
If the baby needs special care – are they covered?
In the event that your baby may require admission into San's Special Care Nursery and for this to be covered, you will need to ensure that you have added your baby to your private health fund cover within 2 months from the baby’s date of birth.
Can I claim for prenatal consultations?
If you are receiving care under a participating obstetrician under the programme, prenatal consultations are provided with no out-of-pocket costs for members involved in the programme.
What is covered with obstetrician fees and management fees?
Participating obstetricians will be providing their standard model of care for all patients. We suggest you check with your medical provider to confirm with them their planned consultations and any other services.
What happens if I was already seeing a participating obstetrician prior to the commencement of Swaddle?
If you were a HCF patient under the care of a participating obstetrician prior to the commencement date of Swaddle (28th January 2020) and give birth after this date, your out of pocket expenses going forward will be covered and you may receive a contribution to experience the benefits of the Swaddle program. Any contribution will be paid to you on settlement of the hospital claim following discharge from Sydney Adventist Hospital.
If you join Swaddle from the initial antenatal consultation with a participating obstetrician, you will experience the full benefits of the no gap pregnancy package
Is IVF covered as part of the Sydney Adventist Obstetrics Programme?
IVF services are not part of the Obstetrics programme. Following the IVF treatments, if you fall pregnant then you are eligible to enter the trial as long as you're on the correct level of cover (pregnancy and birth-related services) and have served the 12-month waiting period.
What do I do to cover my baby with private health insurance?
If you’re pregnant and on a single membership, to cover your child from their date of birth make sure you upgrade to a family or single parent membership within two months of the birth of your child. If your child isn't added to your policy within this time frame, your child won’t be covered for procedures that occur during the initial two-month waiting period. Is there a difference in cover between natural and caesarean births?
No, the programme is inclusive of natural and caesarean births as long as you are under the care of a participating obstetrician.

*Available with selected obstetricians, pathology and ultrasound providers at the San. Depends on your level of cover (pregnancy and birth services required) and must have served the 12 month waiting period by the birth date of your baby (this is the standard waiting period for pregnancy and birth services for new joiners to private health insurance). Excludes any policy excess. Not available to Overseas Visitor Health Cover members.
