Changes to HCF Dental Centre Benefits

Effective 1 July 2010, HCF has indexed the fee schedule for major dental services provided in our Dental Centres. In conjunction with the current benefit changes this may result in a modest increase in charges.

The fee charge within the HCF Dental Centre Network has been set at approximately 80 percent of the average fee charged by private practice general and specialist dentists.

Benefits and limits vary depending on your HCF Extras product and are dependant on the treatment or services provided.

The following diagnostic, preventative and simple restorative services are provided by our dentists (not specialists) at no-gap dependant upon your Extras product limits (per person per calendar year):

Description of Service

  • Clinical examinations, including emergencies, with a general dentist
  • Routine consultations (where there has not been a referral to a specialist)
  • Routine small dental x-rays taken in the surgery
  • Panoramic x-rays of the teeth and jaws
  • Testing to check the health of the nerve in teeth
  • Routine cleaning and scaling of teeth
  • Routine application of remineralising agents (fluoride)
  • Instruction in the correct methods of oral hygiene
  • Fabrication & issuing of mouthguards (2 per year)
  • Clinical fissure sealing of teeth
  • Simple single-surface fillings
  • Temporary fillings placed as a clinical procedure
  • Clinical testing for risk of tooth decay
  • Clinical application of concentrated fluoride
  • Clinical treatment of sensitive teeth (not by fillings)
